Serial Controller Drivers

This section describes the Serial.sys and Serenum.sys drivers, and versions 1 and 2 of the serial framework extension (SerCx and SerCx2). Drivers and applications use these inbox Windows components to control serial ports and to communicate with peripheral devices that are connected to these ports. A serial port is a hardware communication interface on a serial controller, which is a 16550 universal asynchronous receiver/transmitter device (UART) or compatible device.

For more information, see Serial Controller Drivers Overview.
