Hypervisor Message Formats

The hypervisor supports a message-based inter-partition communication mechanism. The hypervisor can send messages to a partition or can send messages from one partition to another partition. Each message that the hypervisor sends has a message type, a source partition, and a message payload. For a complete list of message types, see Hypervisor Inter-Partition Communication. The format of the message payload depends on the message type. The messages that are sent by the hypervisor fall into the following categories:

Memory Access Messages

Timer Expiration Message

Processor Event Messages

The data types that the hypervisor uses to send messages are described in Message Data Types.
