Summary State
In addition to saved state, a caller can also call the hypervisor's HvSavePartitionState hypercall function to retrieve summary state data for the partition or the computer. By using this retrieved summary state, the caller can determine whether a partition's potential complete saved state is specifically compatible with respect to the underlying target hardware and hypervisor implementation.
Summary state consists of a minimal amount of information relating specifically to hardware and hypervisor compatibility and does not include most partition-specific context information. Unlike saved state, a caller can retrieve summary state without the necessity of suspending all of the partition's virtual processors in order to obtain the summary state.
A caller uses the HvSavePartitionState and HvRestorePartitionState hypercall functions to retrieve and subsequently test compatibility using the summary state. The summary state can be related to the computer and, optionally, to a particular partition on the computer. The absence of a partition identifier (ID) indicates that the caller should evaluate computer information alone. The presence of a partition ID indicates that the caller should evaluate both computer and partition-related information (for that particular partition).
